JFE Systems Enters "Earthquake Emergency News Flash" Distribution Business
-Holding 10% Capital in a Subsidiary of the Railway Technical Research Institute-

JFE Systems, Inc. (President and CEO: Makoto Iwahashi, Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo - hereinafter referred to as 'our Company') has acquired 10% of capital stock in ANET (President and CEO: Shunichi Kodaka, Head office: Tama-ku, Kawasaki, Kanagawa - hereinafter referred to as 'ANET'), and has dispatched a part-time advisor to ANET. ANET was established on October 3, 2005 as a subsidiary of the Railway Technical Research Institute.
Our focus is to be the driving force behind the development of a safe and secure society through utilizing our cultivated technologies and expertise in information systems development in the "Anti-disaster information business",including the distribution of an "Earthquake Emergency News Flash".

Summary
The operation of ANET is assured by the pledge of investments from the shareholding companies along with our company, including:
JR Soken Engineering (JRSE), JRSI Co., Ltd, TESS Co., Ltd., JR Soken Electric Consulting, Mitsubishi Space Software Co., Ltd. (MSS), CRC Solutions Corp., and NITLO Corporation.
Starting this spring, the Japan Meteorological Agency will begin distributing an "Earthquake Emergency News Flash" to designated users. ANET, as a secondary distributor of this content, will provide emergency information to contracted operators, and be involved in the development of guidance systems with a wide range of uses, and also be involved in the provision of adequate equipment.
ANET will initially target railroad companies (29 major and semi-major companies, approx. 260 public and private small to mid-sized railroad companies) as well as related companies (such as hotels, department stores, and grocery stores). However the company will expand the business to cover other businesses, including elevator control and building management.
ANET is also fostering the delivery of a wide array of disaster prevention solutions in addition to earthquake emergency information.

Purpose
Through the operation of ANET, our Company expects to yield synergistic effects, the expansion of our existing disaster-prevention solution "THUNDERSAFETY" (lightning detection system), and the formation of this service as a contribution to society.

* What is the "Earthquake Emergency News Flash"
When a seismic wave is observed nearby the epicenter of earthquake, the system gives an early warning of the impending earthquake before the shear wave (S-wave; the actual quake) arrives.

ANET was established on October 3, 2005 as a subsidiary of the Railway Technical Research Institute and has improved disaster-prevention measures. The company works not only in the research and distribution of disaster-related information and technology but also in the design, production, and maintenance of systems. Its objectives are to prevent natural disasters and alleviate anticipated damage.
